The Shingen hosts several official and unofficial events and activities for her crew, to foster crew morale on the long and often boring patrols.
Intership BBS
Annual Talent Show
The crew has thrown a talent show every year. Some years, the entire squadron participates, including personnel from USS Alamo and USS Monitor. Some of the regular participants are Dr. Neera singing Terran jazz and blues standards, Noelle Connor demonstrating Chinese martial arts, the Irish punk-folk stylings of the Ancient Paeons, and other demonstrations of crew talent.
Parties
Parties, both sanctioned and unsanctioned, are a regular fact of life aboard Shingen. The best ones take place in the lower decks.
Terran Religion/Spirituality Study Group
An informal group has been referenced in Noelle Connor's character journal, as existing, to support Terrans who practice any religion, given this is a rare and often poorly tolerated activity for Terrans.
The Ancient Paeons of Keltia
This is an Irish-style acoustic punk/folk band (in the vein of The Pogues meets Boiled In Lead) consisting of about four enlisted crewmen. They seem to appear at most parties, invited or not.
Athletic and Fitness Activities
These include fitness facilities such as separate gymnasia for the officers and enlisted crew, and classes offered by various crew members (such as Noelle Connor's t'ai chi/chi gung class that she teaches during long patrols). Raymond Quinn, who is a triathlete, often offers swimming lessons, for both sport and physical therapy purposes. There are also sporting events and teams. Some crew are considering starting a bowling league, since USS Monitor already has a league.
