Jarnel and B'Lalen had met while Jarnel had been serving in the Federation embassy on Qo'noS. What little information that was in his service record indicated he was a science officer, but anyone who had actually paid attention to his actual duties and skill sets would notice a discrepancy between his reported assignment, and his actions. B'Lalen didn't seem to care, as when he was transferred to Luna suddenly, she followed him there despite her parents dislike of him. It wasn't long before they were married. Children took a little longer, due to the need for medical assistance to produce mixed species children.

As they were celebrating finally conceiving, Jarnel was given a short term assignment on the USS Bermuda. When the ship and crew disappeared without a trace, B'Lalen found herself faced with the prospect of raising a set of triplets alone.

When Spiegel attempted to help Diziara find out what had happened to her father, he only managed to reveal more questions and no answers. The ship Jarnel had been reported missing with had turned up again a decade later after a detour through a temporal anomaly, and the one crew member Spiegel could talk to before she disappeared had told him that Jarnel had transferred off the ship literally only a couple days before the ship had gotten lost through the anomaly. After that, Spiegel couldn't make contact with anyone who'd returned with the ship.
